Restore a weakened smile with dental crowns and bridges.

Even though we may try our hardest to protect our teeth from damage, sometimes decay or trauma can leave us dealing with a severelyCrowns damaged tooth or with tooth loss. If you are dealing with either of these issues find out how your Stuart, FL dentist Dr. R. Ian Murray can help boost your oral health with dental crowns and bridges.

What are dental crowns?

Even if you’ve never gotten one before many people recognize a dental crown, the tooth-shaped cap that goes over an entire tooth. A tooth will often require a crown if the damage is extensive enough that a cosmetic filling isn’t enough. This occurs in teeth that have severe cracks, fractures, decay or an infection. A dental crown can be made from a variety of materials, including gold amalgam, ceramic and composite resin. Composite resin tends to be the most popular choice because it can be matched to the color of your teeth.

What are dental bridges?

A dental bridge is designed to replace a missing tooth and close up the gap left by tooth loss. A dental bridge contains two dental crowns on either side of the bridge with a false tooth in the middle. The two dental crowns are placed over the neighboring teeth to hold the bridge in place.

How do I get a dental bridge?

Once your Stuart, FL dentist decides that getting a dental bridge is the right option for your smile, we will start to prepare the two teeth next to the gap for dental crowns. This requires us to shave down extensive amounts of enamel to make room for the crown. Once this is complete, we will take X-rays and impressions of your smile so your dental bridge can be custom-made according to our exact specifications. While your dental bridge is being made, we will fit you with a temporary one.

Once your dental bridge is complete, we will have you return to our office to remove the temporary and replace it with your permanent bridge. Then we will cement the two dental crowns to your teeth to keep the bridge in place.
